WCOS 2024 is for all writers and Guilds who are members of the International Affiliation of Writers Guilds (IAWG) and/or the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe (FSE), as well as invited observers. The first conference was held in Athens, in 2009 followed by Barcelona, Warsaw, Berlin and Copenhagen.
The World Conference is rooted in the empowering value of bringing the international community of Writers’ Guilds, and writers, together. It is global solidarity in action.
In 2024 the Writers’ Guild of Ireland is celebrating 55 years since it was established — first as the Society of Irish Playwrights, then as the Irish Playwrights and Screenwriters Guild and now as the WGI. 55 years is, appropriately, an Emerald Anniversary, and so WCOS 2024 is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the work that the Guild has done over those 55 years in fighting for writers’ rights, and in increasing the power of Irish writers, domestically and globally.
We are delighted to welcome our sister Guilds and writers from all across the world to come celebrate with us – to recognise what Guilds can achieve, and what your Guild can achieve. And of course, to talk about how much more we can, and must achieve globally.
RESOLUTION OF THE 2024 WORLD CONFERENCE OF SCREENWRITERS, GALWAY, IRELAND
Those Guilds with experience in organising the power of their members to create a better world for writers and their stories will commit to helping their sister Guilds to begin organising training with the goal of Writers Guilds organising globally.
